Lucia is only 14 months so I'm "safe" for now but I know it'll be hard for me.
She's very independent. I've had her babysat twice in her whole life and she is totally fine but I missed her like crazy.

I hope someone can help you more. Then you can chat when "it's time"!

Hi Elizabeth,

My two kids are a little way off school yet (eldest - 3) but I don't know if I'll be ready when the time comes either.

I cried the whole day my son first went to childcare! He was absolutely fine - I was a mess!! And I thought I'd be better prepared when my daughter started, but again - another day crying!

I didn't really help you, but I want to wish you good luck.

Hi Elizabeth,

Mine are also too young for school (eldest is 2.5yrs), but wanted to wish you luck! You'll have to keep us posted on how it goes as it's going to be very relevant to us all some day soon.

The first time I put DS1 in occasional care, I fretted for 3 hours wondering if he was enjoying himself. When I picked him up he was so busy happily playing he hardly gave me the time of day.
Then he cried because he didn't want to come home! LOL.
Cheers,
Sarah

Elizabeth my 3rd started school this year and it felt worse than it did for my 1st and 2nd. I mean I cried with the 1st and 2nd but with the 3rd you know that the little kid that was at your feet all day is just not there anymore.

DO NOT CRY IN FRONT OF HER. Have a smile on you face and be brave.

Get in the car and cry your hear out - but you do get used to it after a while. I used to sit and wonder is she ok? she must be eating lunch now! Did she go to the toilet ok? Stupid things like that.

It will be OK. Trust me!!

My DD is starting kindy next year, that will be her first time in any sort of professional care. While I am sure I will be a little sad, it will be nice to have a couple of days at home with just DS. She is really ready for something like this and I am sure she will have so much fun.

I'm sure I'll still be a bit teary when she starts though!

Elizabeth,

You and Tiana will be fine, even though it will take getting used to. Joshi is starting kinder next year and I will miss him heaps as he is really good company - I will miss the babycinos we have together while his brothers are at school (Prep and Grade 1 in 2007). Yet it is also really exciting when Preppies learn to read and write, and they come home with some really cute things that you know they would never have picked up from home - like my preppy Ben is currently into praying to Santa for Xmas presents, complete with "Amen".

And preppies look soooo cute in uniforms; you will be so proud!
No matter how busy or preoccupied you are, don't forget your children are the things that really count. Love you Jay, Ben, Joshi and Tara xxxx

oh.. i just started crying with reading your replies... especially yours chriss. I can really imagine myself getting into my car and letting go!!
I just know I will!

we had her Kinder graduation last night. (I had no idea kinder kids had a graduation)
they did a concert, presented all their parents a gift, and then did a one by onw as their name was called out, came to the stage, shook the teachers hand, was presented a cup, and sat down. they all wore the tassled mortarboard hats too! I cried!

i have great pics ... and wondered if she will go to uni and wear another.

fairykisses. thanks so much for remebering Tiana's name! I love the fact your ben is praying to santa... thats so cute, and yes, we tried on her uniform... and of course what did i do... cry!! she came up and gave me a hug and said " you know i will always love you" that just made me cry even more... and I tickled her and chased her through the house for a tummkiss!!

*sigh*
am going to be spending so much time with her before school starts. I know she is so excited... and I know I am not ready to let go!!!

will tell you how the first day goes!

all you girls not there yet... its hard. I also for ages when i popped her into care for one day a week, would take her late, pick her up early and wonder what she was doing all the time. took me a good couple weeks to "learn" to have "me" time

You will all be fine.... and then comes school time all too quick!
